Digital Ear is a sound recognition tool designed to give people with hearing disabilities better awareness of their surroundings. The software listens to and analyzes your acoustic environment and notifies you by flashing and/or vibrating (your choice) when it thinks it hears one of the sounds you recorded.

In Digital Ear, a Sound is a set of recordings under one name. So if you want the app to listen out for the sound of your doorbell, you might create a Sound called "the doorbell" and make a number of recordings of it from different parts of your house.

With the latest update, Digital Ear can continue listening in the background, so you can switch to other apps or even turn the screen off and take a nap while its running. (It can still vibrate to notify you while running in the background.)

Please note that no recordings are transferred off of your device; its completely private. In fact, Digital Ear doesnt even connect to the Internet.

Also, please note that Digital Ear is best at recognizing and distinguishing between constant tones and short sounds. Its not designed to recognize speech (yet). And the quality of your recordings is extremely important for accurate recognition. (Usually, shorter recordings are better. If youre recording your microwave alarm or smoke detector, for example, try to record just one beep.)
